My Mother Cried

THIS IS MOONSHINE HILL just after Memorial Day 2000

I felt like all I was doing was tear out and rip up and fix nothing back and I was so ashamed of anyone knowing where I lived! Yes I did live here...for 6 years. I had gone to one of Berenice Dentons Estate Sales in Belle Meade on Jackson Blvd and found all the new 1930ish windows, doors and hand hewn fireplace mantel! What a find!!!! $40.00 a window and $25.00 a door. However they all sat outside on a trailer for a year or two until I finally got to the point of having them installed. Notice there are 7 steps going up to the front pourch, that's 100 truck loads of dirt that was shuffled around the property. At the time no outside dirt was brought in...I couldn't afford that too. I choose to always have the coolest furniture. Many of the pieces that are in the cabin today were in there as i always decorated while everything was under construction and when Moonshine Hill was a dump.

The place had been abandoned for quite some time...the Sullivan family, (Not the previous resident Moonshiners) Rachael and Clint had lived there for 50 years. They grew tobacco in the hills surrounding the house. They owned 150 acres all around the then white clapboard house with two front doors...I never understood that one. By the time I came into the picture on Memorial Day 2000 the farm was so overgrown and imagining it like that today is totally inposible. I purchased it at an ABSOLUTE AUCTION for $112,000.00 All 22 acres. My every thought during the day was all about improving the place and what small improvement could I afford this month!!! Since the staircase had fellen to the ground and the toilet had fallen through the floor I just cried...WHAT HAVE I DONE!!! I had just gotten a divorce after 9 years of marrige to someone that said to me daily...call the BANK this morning and see if we have anything on RETURN. I decided to pre qualify for a house and I qualified for $127,000.00. My thought at the time was to buy the worst house in the best part of town and I did just that! My good credit was a thing of the past and my dreams of hillbilliy adventures seamed more realistic as I had no indoor plumbing and no way to get upstairs...and kinda scared to after that happened. I had a bed in the center of the floor that I always kept made...don't do that today but I Ifelt that was the only thing I could control at the time.

This place is amazing and so full of history. You will never forget your stay with us! Those Moonshine stories seeped into the walls of the cabin and came out something like this...

It all started about 100 years ago when the families (Must remain nameless for now) living in the community of Benton Town now known as Leipers Fork had no flat land to farm on. How were they to earn a living in addition to logging? The railway just started in the village comming fron Mt Pleasant going to Nashville. But, their had to be a more exciting way of life a little on the edgeie side maybe...then came Moonshine. 105 proof and plenty of it. People came from all over central Tennessee as far up as the kentucky state line to by the famous shine on Moonshine Hill. Bobo ____ a former resident and born in the fromt room as he stated... stoped by 10 years ago to tell me how it was made and to let me know he sat behind the hog barn made of Chesnut wood at 5 years old with his buddy Clem and they sipped it from a hose that was stuck in the big wood barrell. I wonder what their mothers said? After he told me the complete story he said...come pay me a visit...I'm the only house down on the right with a bathtub in the front yard! I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world with such colorful neighbors!!!

I spend a lot of time talking on the phone to folks interested in staying with us and it very hard to really express the true beauty of the place to interested people over the phone. there have been several people that have said, "the picures don't do it justice" It is so much nicer in person. but I have not figured out how to express Moonshine Hill over the phone as I could do in person. So how would I do that to a possible cisitor in Washington State that is comming for the first time to Leipers Fork? My every thought before someone checks into the cabin is making sure EVERYTHING is just right...down to the toilet paper. I am always open to suggestions. I just purchased towelets that are made of cotton and have a Lavender scent for people to use each day. They are not reusable however the guest can take them home and use then for a dust cloth. It is a special place and I am wanting to share it with everyone!

This Inn located in Franklin, Tn in the community of Leipers Fork and is the most peaceful place with a private lake, Pavilion and huge firepit directly outside the Mr Ed door in the kitchen! We provide all the wood you can burn. Our furnishings are absolutely amazing and vary inviting. The Inn is strictly for one family at a time. We are not set up for multiple families that do not know each other. We have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. We have wifi service a computer and two flat screen TV's with DVD players a book of 200 movies, music CD and too much more to list. See our web site.
